Dear Rotarians, “Service Above Self” is the motto of all Rotarians and I am proud to serve as the new President for the Rotary Club of Galveston Island. It is truly an honor to play a small part in a large organization focused on making a real impact on the world. More importantly, I am proud to serve as this year’s President for our club who, collectively, strives to make an impact on our local community.

Dear Rotarians, “Service Above Self” is the motto of Rotarians, and I am proud to serve as the new President for the Rotary Club of Galveston Island. Service to my local community is at the heart of my career goals. I remain focused on continuing to find ways to help Galveston improve, in order to further enhance the island lifestyle for our resilient residents. Concentrating on ways to deepen the connections between business owners, the nonprofit sector, City leadership, and the families that live here keep me motivated and energized. The fellowship and connections I have made during my time in Rotary have been life-changing and will continue to hold value throughout my lifetime. As a community, and as a Club, we will all continue to be pressed to try new things, be willing to adapt, and think of ways to stay connected with each other and with our community as we continue to face challenges along the way. This year's Rotary theme is Rotary Opens Opportunities. I believe we can change the world together, when we share our ideas, and leverage our power toward the greater good. This year offers us all the opportunity to grow closer; we can stand together, even when we must stay apart. I look forward to meeting the new opportunities that will arise this year as I serve as Board President with an open heart, a clear mind, and in unity with my fellow Rotarians. Take good care, Selah

What's better than having a visitor read to you? Getting to keep a new book!!! On Wednesday, January 24, volunteers from Island Rotary visited Burnet Elementary to help SMART Family Literacy read to kindergarten classes and pass out books that those kiddos got to take home to read again and again!

While Hurricane Harvey decimated much of Galveston County, most of us in the great city of Galveston were thankfully spared this time from the worst of a tropical system. This allowed the Rotary Club of Galveston Island to contribute to the ongoing efforts just to our north to rebuild, restore, and recover.
